Curriculum
The goal of this 9 week course is to introduce students to the fundamentals of Computer Science. Topics include computational thinking, algorithms, loops, conditionals, events and variables. Students will learn coding concepts using a block-based programming language, which will allow them to focus on concepts and not syntax.

8th Grade Supplies:
-
Chromebook
-
Headphones
-
Assignment Notebook
-
Pen or Pencil
-
Folder
Students will use the code.org learn programming concepts using a drag and drop, block style coding. New programming concepts will be introduced to the students as we work through the course. Students will create programs with loops, events, and conditionals, functions and variables.

Students will use the Scratch program to implement their coding principles to create interactive games.
Scratch uses a block-based visual programming language. As students create programs in Scratch, they will learn core computational concepts in a meaning and motivating context.
Why Coding?
Coding improves academic performance in math, writing, creativity and confidence. Coding builds soft skills like focus and organization, resilience and communication. Coding also paves a path to the future with empowerment, life skills, and career preparation.
